Semester Over!

Finally the semester is over and now I get to enjoy time with my family and friends.

I wanted to share my last work with you. I worked with Dr. Fortner (Bible teacher) for a couple of month during this semester. I redesigned his website and change the structure of it. Leave me a comment on the blog how you liked the new website.

What’s has keeping me busy

After a long semester things are coming to an end. There have been a lot of activities going on the last few weeks and I would love to share in detail all of them with you, but I will have to give a brief summary of what they were.

One of my favorites was the amazing formal night we had with the Walton Seniors. Let me show you some photos:

The juniors hosted the formal and it was a lot of fun because we had to have something extravagant as part of our cloth. Our theme was Las Vegas and we decorated the big salon as a casino. I really enjoyed the night. Everyone was emotional, but they surely enjoyed too. There were around 70 people invited and 5-8 people planned it. It was a lot of work during the semester, but it was worth it. Now is over but the memories are going to be there forever. Hopefully the tradition continues and next year I get invited to the my formal.

Getting an Internship

I believe it is harder to get a good job than to finish college. Finishing college might take around 4 years. But after you are done with your school getting the job you always wanted could take a long time. I am starting my search for a job and it hasn’t been that bad. First of all I talked with a lot of people that have great experience and they have given me some guidelines on how to search. Second, I am really6 happy that Harding provides valuable help. As a student, that does not know much and is just learning how to walk like a little baby, I can go to the Carrere Center and with their help I will be on my own running in matter of days.

Harding also plans quite often career fairs in which companies like DELL and AXCIOM have strong participation. Interviews with the companies are in campus and they also prepare you in a professional way for success. I got lot assistance with my CV and cover letter too. These two elements have open many doors internationally for this summer. Hopefully I will be working and getting valuable experience in my area, so that I could improve some skill and learn a few more.

This Internship will tell me exactly what I would like to work on, so that I get one step closer to a job I want. If you have any suggestions leave a comment, I will be glad to hear it.

Making Breaks

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share with you some of the fun I had this weekend. My roommate got two nice sweaters and as you know by now, Arkansas has one of the weirdest weather ever so we decided to use these sweaters during spring…. weird huh? Well there is a nice story behind the sweaters. It happens to be that he got the sweaters from the sheriff from Searcy as a present.sherif.png

It was nice to forget about classes and make some free time. We use to do this more often but this semester seems so short that we don’t get do it as frequently. In a near future we are planning a trip and have some outdoors activities, like playing soccer.

That reminds me about the intramural games next week. We are going to spend a long time doing homework during the day and playing soccer during the night for the intramural competitions! We will play indoor soccer at the GAC for 3 hours with a big group of friends. Did you know that in Spanish you say Football instead of Soccer? But it is my favorite sport and is the one that is played most around the world! Well guys, got to keep on working but I let you know if my team wins.

Pi + 1 Day

I tried to write yesterday but I was really tired.  There was too much fun around campus.

During Chapel Dr. Burks got his favorite piece of [Pi]e.  After chapel there were several people buying the PI t-shirt. The Math Department was organizing this sell in order to support a fund raiser. Everywhere around campus you could see some of the decimal digits of the value PI:

I also saw many posters where the value PI was use. The posters explained thinks like the ratio of your vision and the diameter of the earth…… there were to complex for me, but they look really cool.  I was a geeky felling.

At 3:14 pm. there was a PI walk of 3.14 Km. around the campus! I got to saw the start of, but i could not join them because i was helping a friend with a project.

Spring Break 2008

For this spring break i decided to spend some time with an old friend from my German High School. Her name is Isolde and we haven’t seen each other for many years for different reasons. One time she left to visit her family and we couldn’t see one another. A different time I had a plan to go to California and she didn’t have plans for her break. But now everything work out for us. I came to Louisiana to visit her for my spring break. She is on class for a few hour during the day. Later we have some plans to know the some places around the block.

A really interesting thing is that I am taking American History and Dr. Hayney spent almost a whole class talking about the influence of Spain and France in Louisiana. Now I get to see everything what he talked about. I love the architecture and flavor and feeling of the city. We went to see a Jazz band in a cafe the other night and I learned about the history of the music and how Jazz emerge from the mixture of rhythm.

Isolde&Me

Computer Doc

Today I played as a Computer Doctor! You know, computers need more of everything these days. One of the things that they need is more doctors. Not everyone is related to how to make a computer come back to life. You know CPR works for humans just fine, but what is there that works for computers just as easy and simple? Have you ever seen the Blue Screen in Windows? Or are you a lucky user that uses Mac or Linux? I have used Windows most of my life. It was until I came to Harding that I realized about the other worlds out there; Mac and Linux. Once you get a feel for them you don’t want to come back to Windows. The problem is that the world is corrupted and most people don’t know the true about these worlds.

I came up with these all because of a good friend of mine, who’s laptop was working just perfect until a few days ago. He is a windows user. What was his problem? Windows I would say. The operative system decided to stop working. He asked for some help but there wasn’t much to do. All his files and programs were gone!

He came to me and I started working on his computer looking for every possible way to get a sign of life.  I had a lot of responsibility because I told him that I could help him. So I gave him hope about something I didn’t have a clue, but that I knew that could be done.

It took me a week to find out what in the world happened and I finally found out how to do some CPR.

If you want any help doing this I’ll be more than glad to share with you what I did step by step.

But for the sake of saving some keystrokes I will only give a general idea of how it went.

I took the windows CD to make the machine show some living signals.

I forced it to use some really old configuration (old accounts, old passwords, and old look) to make it stand on its feet.

I reset all the possible configurations and after a week of messing with all the tutorials on the internet and with security configurations I got it.

My friend got all his files back and now we are in the process in making backups before he reinstalls windows again.

It’s sad that we never learn the lesson.

21 Years Old

I had a blast the day of my birthday. The beginning of the day was a little tough, but at the end of the day everything was better of what I imagined. I had a paper to finish for my Bible class and I didn’t feel all that inspired the days before , so I reschedule it (procrastinate it ) to the last second. I was kind of worried that I was not going to be able to finish my paper on time because of my American History test. I didn’t want to work on the paper for very long because it was my birthday, but once I started working on it I felt completely inspired. I haven got my American History test back, but I feel really good about it too. And later on the day when I was done with all my school activities my girlfriend went to my dorm and covered my eyes. We went for a ride for a while I was really excited. I didn’t really know what to expect.

After awhile of her driving me around with my eyes covered, we finally got to our destination and I wasn’t that lost. I was guessing all the time. We end up in a different dorm and some of my good friends were there waiting for us. They had waited for a long time already. I was really happy to see them. They took the time to decorate the room, plan some games, and they cooked a lot of food. Everyone was really hungry and they told me that if we had taken 10 more minutes they would have eaten without us. LOL

I enjoyed it a lot. The big part was the food of course. My girlfriend baked the cake and it was delicious. Oh yes, I almost forgot to mention that everyone in my family love me so much that they woke me up at 6:00 am. I usually get up at 8:00 am. And that my roommate got me a fancy watch. I really fancy one!!!

 

I thank God and everyone for the blessing that I have had during this 21 years of life.

Surprising Weather

The weather here in Arkansas is extremely crazy and I bet you have heard that before, but now I can proof it to you.

The week started sunny and I was hoping it got a little bit warmer because I love about everything you can do outdoors at Harding.

The next day it was really windy and as you can see in this video it got a little bit wild as well.

Then it was raining, but this didn’t last long because the temperature started dropping really fast.

So we got snow- And you don’t imagine how everyone gets excited about snow. I wanted to go play with the snow but I had a class so I only took a few pictures for you guys.

When I was coming out from my class the ice was everywhere.

 

You don’t know what to expect for the next day. There is always a surprise, but no matter what it is I always enjoy them all.

 

Maybe next week we get more snow and less wind!

Princess cut

Last week was all about celebration for a lot of my friends and me. Remember last time I told you my roommate was going to make his life complicated. Well I was absolutely right. I knew he was up to something and he wanted to give a big surprise to everyone.

 

He got engaged!!!

 

 

So here is the story:
My roommate and his fiance (Cynthia) were celebrating two years of dating. That same morning Cynthia got a friend of ours to put a package and a big poster with a song by my roommate’s door. It was a romantic Spanish song that describes their relationship. During the afternoon he finished fixing his present for her, it was a small box with a little craft he made himself. His intention was to make her think it was a ring box (I know… he is mean). They didn’t see each other that much during the day because of classes, so they had already planned to go out and have a romantic dinner. According to my roommate, the dinner was nice, but it was over too soon. He had everything premeditated for 10:00pm and Cynthia wanted to leave the restaurant around 9:00pm. So here comes the killing time process. He went to the bathroom and called some people that needed to be ready at ten and asked them if they could be ready in a few minutes. But of course they said no. So he had to kill more time. He paid the waiter, so he would disappear and take a long time to bring them the bill, that way they would not be able to leave; he couldn’t leave the restaurant without paying the bill. The funny thing is that the waiter immediately went to the table and gave them the bill.

 

Well, the pressure was on, as you can see and he was running out of ideas about what to do. He didn’t have any more choices than to pay the bill and reschedule his plan. So he paid the bill and the waiter took it. He started talking about random things and after a while Cynthia started complaining about how long it was taking to get their change back.Around 30 minutes later they got their change back and were ready to head back. He only needed 30 more minutes to be sure that everything was going to be OK.

 

At the car they found an ad at their windshield. My roommate was super excited about it! That was the sign that the other group had to put if everything was OK. They were heading back to Harding and a police car was following them. He had never had good luck with the police. He always gets pull over and all the time he was been dating Cynthia they have problems with cops.

 

So, here they are stopped by the police in their anniversary. The officer asked him for his license and registration and after that he asked him to get out of the car. After a few minutes the cop asked Cynthia to come out of the car too. She was really nervous and didn’t have a clue what in the world was going on.

 

According to my roommate, the night was cold but there were a lot of stars. According to Cynthia, she was nervous and she was about to cry.

 

The police officer started checking the car and after a few seconds he came with a little box asking, “Is this yours?” They admitted it was theirs. Cynthia took the box and showed the officer that was a little present he got for her anniversary. My roommate looked at Cynthia and made her realize something was going on. She reached on her pocket and found that she had her present in the pocket. So, where did the cop got a box that looked exactly like the one Cynthia’s had gotten for her anniversary?

 

The next part of the story is really confusing for me; I can’t really make sense of it because when my roommate was telling me we both started crying like little girls. I was too happy for him and we hugged each other while he was finishing the story. So you could say I wasn’t paying attention anymore, but it was really hard to do that when I was so happy for him.

 

But I will summarize what the end was all about. The other box had the ring with a princess cut diamond… and she said …

 

Yes !!!

The Police officer was a friend of my roommate and everything was better than what he planned.

There was a camera filming everything and I hope I get to see the video soon.
